Deritend, Birmingham, England B12 0QH Friction Arts make what we call ‘art where you live’. We aim to make quality, contemporary arts in real world settings, outside and alongside arts and cultural institutions and along with a diverse range of people. We do not make traditional community arts, though we always work with people and encourage participation in all kinds of ways. We work with diverse groups of participants and artists to make our work. We recognize that, as professional artists of over fifteen years standing, we have gained the expertise to create the artworks we wish to produce and are recognized internationally as experts in our field. So through discussion, listening and dialogue with a whole range of people we aim to interpret and create contemporary arts, interventions and performances along with the people we work with, including other artists, experts from other fields and members of the communities in which we work. |
| Other Info | Jonathan Kay and Nomadic Academy of Fools present A Feast of Fools! Payment by donation. See donations page on website for details. An evening of foolish entertainments brought to you by Jonathan Kay and the Nomadic Academy of Fools. As part of the Academy training the participants are working on a new theatre pratice called C.D.T. (Comedy de Tragic) where the fools learn to work together on sequences with a variety of developed characters. There are a great many combinations of sequences and characters, so no two shows are ever the same! This is a scratch performance, which is a style of performance where the artists are presenting work in progress rather than a fully realised polished piece. So please be generous and your feedback will be very welcome. After the Fools have performed Jonathan Kay will also perform his legendery show Know One's Fool. Jonathan Kay is a 21st Century Jester, for a generation bought up on passive forms of entertainment. Over the last 35 years Jonathan has developed a unique artistic practice, which he calls Fooling. There is something timeless about his work. It will feel familiar and yet like nothing you have ever experienced before. A master of his art, Jonathan Kay is an incredibly generous and insightful performer, creating a space where it is safe for the audience to lower their defences and explore the infinite possibilities of a world without boundaries. His shows are not only hilariously funny but they are also revelatory and invigorating. He leads you down the path of the Fool, where you will free up your minds, find inspiration and see that anything is possible. The audience actually creates the show, using Jonathan Kay as their easel! |
