The PHOENIX project will provide a supportive environment encouraging people to make contemporary work both individually and collectively. Through a combination of planned events and spontaneous realisations we intend to respond, creatively, to what is happenning in and around us. We will offer a focal point for community gatherings and celebrations, which will be conciously devised to allow everyone an opportunity to participate in the process.

Other Info
The workshops introduce you to the structure of Jonathan Kay's unique Fooling Technique over the course of a weekend. This is only enough time to give you a taste of the structure, with the Nomadic Academy being the only way to fully digest the full experience of working in this way, but a weekend workshop is still an adventure unto itself. Over the last 37 years Jonathan has developed his unique artistic practice of Fooling. A master of his art, Jonathan Kay is an incredibly generous and insightful teacher, creating a space where it is safe for the participants to lower their defences and explore the infinite possibilities of a world without boundaries. This work is not for the faint hearted, but it is revelatory and invigorating for anyone who dares to wander down the path of the Fool. You do not have to be a performer to get a lot out of this work. Jonathan Kay works with many types of people from all walks of life, from Mental Health Nurses, The Ministry of Defence, Choirs and annual workshops in Bosnia. His work helps people free up their minds, find inspiration and make powerful choices surrounding their lives.

'Stupid, silly, intriguing, delightful, strange and unsettling… I really learned something about the nature of performance. Especially about the unconscious "audience" that one carries around with one almost all the time.'
Guy Dartnel

How do I book a place?

To book onto a weekend workshop simply read through the Why by Donation? page on this website and decide how much you would like to donate to participate. Then enter this amount into the donation box on the left-hand toolbar of the homepage. This will take you through to the company Paypal account. If you are unable to donate through Paypal then please email me at jolie@jonathankay.co.uk to make an alternative arrangement. Please also email me at this address if you have any other queries. After you have made your donation please send an email to donations@jonathankay.co.uk leaving your name, phone number and the workshop dates you wish to be booked on to and mark the subject with the name of the town you want to do the workshop in. You will then receive a confirmation email from us. It is not possible for you to turn up on the day with a donation as there will be no one there to receive it. Jonathan does not deal with finances!

Once booked on...

The workshops begin at 10am and run until 6pm. Please arrive at 9.30am so there is time to register you before we start. Bring warm clothes, lots of layers, a blanket and a bottle of water. The workshops are not suitable for anyone under 18 years of age. You are committing to doing the whole weekend by turning up and you are responsible for your own well-being. This is rigorous emotional work.

We look forward to working with you and hope you have an amazing weekend!
